Instructor: Mrs. Van Eyck
Yearbook is an exclusive elective course that gives students the opportunity to design and create their very own school yearbook. They will gain experience in print media publishing with a real life hardcopy outcome. The course works toward the production and completion of a memorable school yearbook. In this class, students compose, construct, and edit all elements of a computerized text layout, graphic art, and digital photography. We will be using laptops, cameras, and iPads for the creation of this year’s book. Students work on clerical operations, advertisement, interviews, design, and so much more. The majority of class time will be spent on generating computerized yearbook pages. The students will gain real world skills in time management, organizational skills, teamwork and design principles, hence then application. Students will often work in teams, but will also be expected to complete individual assignments. Some out of class time may be required to document school events and/or conduct interviews. As we cannot complete a yearbook in one trimester we will meet Mondays after school, after the first trimester ends. This class gives the students to not only learn lifelong technology skills surrounding print, photography and journalism, it also gives them a hand in creating a life long keepsake that will be archived and referenced at OLMCS for years to come.
Course Goals:
1. Students will become familiar with the computerized yearbook design software.
2. Students will use a digital camera, iPad and laptop effectively.
3. Students will plan the design, theme and flow of the yearbook.
4. Design pleasing page layouts.
5. Students will conduct interviews.
6. Work towards complete coverage of the history of the school year.
7. Students will proofread, spell check and edit copy.
8. Meet all layout deadlines.
9. Students will organize, advertise, and run a cover art contest
10. Students will print and proof a final copy for review by the principal.
This elective comes with a yearlong commitment and an application process.

We start each technology class with my person favorite the music video parody project.
